Better Sleep During Pregnancy

Its no secret that pregnancy can be uncomfortable. Lots of aches and pains as your body is growing and changing can make your day to day activities a bit more challenging or exhausting. There are days where I desperately look forward to crawling into bed to rest, but then I’m only met with the challenge of getting comfortable enough to sleep.

During my first pregnancy I didn’t find much that brought any relief at night. Luckily (I guess) I was so sick I had to take Unisom before bed every night to help me with the nausea that I was able to get a little sleep. With this pregnancy, however, the pain at night has been much worse. I’m constantly tossing and turning, switching sides, to get as comfortable as possible.

I was so thankful when 8 Sheep Organics reached out to me and asked if they could send me some of their Sleepy Body Lotion to try. I will be honest, I didn’t have high hopes for it but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. Not only was I anxious to get better sleep myself, but I was hoping that if I could have fewer restless nights that my tossing and turning would no longer keep Andrew awake. I am happy to say I have been pleasantly surprised with the relief and sleep that it has provided.

My first night of use was the first time I felt like I had a truly decent night sleep. I woke up much less frequently throughout the night and Andrew even told me I wasn’t nearly as restless as I had been. I was in such a deep sleep that according to him I snored that night, which truthfully I NEVER do. So clearly, I was finally comfortable.

I have now been using the lotion for over a week and have definitely noticed a difference and figured out how to use it to work best for me. I put it on right before I plan to go to sleep. The first few nights I would put it on when I got in bed to read (anywhere from 30-60 minutes before planning to fall asleep) but I realized after a few nights that the effects of the lotion lasted longer if I waited until right when I was putting my book away for the night and ready for sleep. I apply it on my lower back, right under my bump and then on my hips and legs.

So what is so special about this lotion? It is made with magnesium chloride to help settle restless legs and relieve pain. In addition to the magnesium chloride the lotion comes in delightful scents (scented with essential oils, all safe for pregnancy). I personally chose the eucalyptus scent because I knew it was one that made me feel relaxed and at piece. They also offer lavender, bergamot and unscented. As an added bonus, the combination of mango butter and coconut oil has been extremely moisturizing and helped heal my dry and chapped wintery skin.

I will absolutely continue to use this lotion during my pregnancy, and probably even after for nights that I feel I need a little extra relief or help sleeping better. Nothing about it makes it strictly for use during pregnancy so if you are someone who has a hard time sleeping, can’t get comfortable or is particularly restless (pregnant or not) give the Sleepy Body Lotion a try.
