Muir Woods

While we were in Napa for our honeymoon we took a day trip to San Francisco to visit Muir Woods. I have always been fascinated by trees and the environment so I was beyond thrilled to have the chance to explore Muir Woods. We had such a great time exploring the different trails. If you ever get the chance or are in the SF area we definitely recommend going!

We weren’t as prepared as we should have been for hiking so we are planning on revisiting the next time we are back.

A few tips for Muir Woods:

  • Wear appropriate shoes- While a lot of the paths are paved or well maintained, be sure to wear comfortable shoes with good traction regardless of how “strenuous” of a hike you plan on doing
  • Wear layers-Muir Woods is close to the water so depending on the area of the park/time of day it can be pretty chilly. Wear layers that you can add on or remove as needed so that you can comfortably enjoy the weather.
  • Plan ahead- There are so many different trails and areas to explore. Based on our trip it seems like most people stick to the basic loop but there are several other trails and paths you can follow. Look up maps ahead of time and decide which areas you are interested in exploring.

Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean. -John Muir
