It’s no secret that I love coats. I’ll admit I have far more than I need. However, living in the Midwest means wearing a coat the majority of the year. Often times it’s really all that you can see of an outfit, so you may as well make it cute!
While I have several coats that I really love, my Barbour Beadnell is by far my most worn coat. It’s also the coat I get asked about most often. So I thought I would share a little review and answer questions I frequently get.
First, let me just say this coat is definitely an investment. I know saying whether or not it’s “worth it” is very subjective and depends on the person. For me, it has definitely been worth it as I wear it at least 8 months out of the year and find it very versatile. I purchased my first Beadnell in 2015 and I loved it so much I ordered it in the sage color a few years ago as well. The sage and navy both continue to be my most worn pieces.
SIZING & STYLE

The Beadnell style is a looser fit while still maintaining a slightly feminine silhouette. I am typically a medium or large in outerwear (numeric 8/10) and I wear a US 8. I could probably size down if I wanted but I like having extra room for layering sweaters or vests. This classic Barbour style has been around since 2010. It was introduced as a slightly more slimmed down version of their classic Bedale which has been around since 1980. Both styles of coat are truly timeless and also beloved by the royal family. This coat works great with wellies, sneakers, flats an riding boots making it a very versatile piece.
WARMTH
While the Beadnell definitely isn’t a “winter coat” I do find it to be plenty warm and often wear it in the winter. Barbour has different liners that can be zipped into the jacket for added warmth. They also have waxed hoods that can be attached to the coat as well. I have the hood for my navy Beadnell and I love that I can use it when needed and remove it when I want a slightly more refined look. It also has lined pockets that are so cozy and soft. The waxed style is perfect for rain and snow as it wicks away the water.

UPKEEP

A waxed jacket does require a bit more upkeep than a typical raincoat but I think it is worth it. They recommend re-waxing your coat about once a year but I don’t find that mine needs it quite that often. You have the option of re-waxing it yourself or sending it in. I prefer to send it in to make sure that it is done properly. Depending on how often I wear my coat I send it in about every 2 years. This is a coat that will last for decades so treating it with care and re-waxing is essential.
Barbour jackets can be found at several different retailers like Tuckernuck, Nordstrom, Orvis and more. Right now you can snag 20% off Barbour (or any purchase) at Tuckernuck using code YOUROCK. Barbour doesn’t often go on sale so this is a great time to purchase if you’ve been wanting a jacket or any of their other great pieces.

I absolutely love my Barbour too!! I didn’t know you needed to rewax it though- yikes! Thanks for the heads up!
