Holiday Traditions

Traditions are, and always have been, very important to me. In part because some of my favorite childhood memories have to do with family traditions at holidays and also because I love to plan ahead and traditions are something I can look forward to and expect every year.

While I always look forward to old traditions, I also love starting new ones. Since it is now officially December and only three weeks until Christmas (THREE WEEKS!) I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite holiday traditions both old and new. And I would love to hear what some of your favorite traditions are as well 🙂

Christmas MorningIMG_0477.JPGFor the past few years we have made homemade cinnamon rolls to have on Christmas morning. Not only is it fun to have something special when we wake up that morning but I also love the time we spend making them.

Travel OrnamentsDSC_1699.jpgOn our honeymoon I decided to start a new tradition. We were visiting Muir Woods and I found a beautiful golden leaf ornament. Since we were married right before Christmas I thought it would be fun to start collecting ornaments on all of our travels to help us remember the trips we take together as we celebrate our anniversary and Christmas each year. Since being married we have acquired ornaments for several of our trips and I love putting them up each year.DSC_1695.JPG

Family Movie

One tradition that I look forward to with joy every year is watching It’s A Wonderful Life as a family. It is such a wonderful way to spend time together during the holiday season and is a family favorite. As we all get older it becomes more difficult to find a time to all get together making the movie night all the more special.

What are some of your favorite holiday traditions?

  1. These sound like such great traditions! I LOVE that sailboat ornament from Maine. We have one from when we went to Maine, too. It’s a lobster trap with Christmas lights on it. I always smile when we bring it out every year. Whenever we travel, we try to get an ornament. The ornaments we’ve gotten from Disney World are my boys’ favorites. As far as traditions, we always let the kids open one present on Christmas Eve. I make meatballs, shrimp cocktail and a cheese and cracker plate for dinner on Christmas Eve. I always get a Christmas puzzle for us to put together as a family over Christmas break. This year, I’m getting a fondue pot, and I’m really excited about it. I told the boys they could each invite a few friends to have chocolate fondue and board games. Hopefully, I’ll make this a tradition. I love all of your posts!!! This one was a favorite of mine!
