Thanksgiving is only a few days away which means that “Black Friday” is growing nearer as well. I’m not really a fan of “Black Friday” and truly just don’t understand the concept. We spend a day giving thanks and then the next day focus on buying things that we probably don’t really need. Suddenly, want and greed overcome our gratitude.
This year REI is continuing their “Opt Outside” Campaign and closing their stores on Black Friday to encourage people to get outside and to spend time exploring. I think this is a truly great idea and I applaud companies that don’t participate in “Black Friday” and the absurd holiday shopping craze.
Even if you don’t want to spend the Friday after Thanksgiving outside, I hope you will choose to forgo the holiday shopping madness. Instead, spend the day with friends and family that you don’t often see, continue giving thanks for all you have, or give back to others.
Our thankfulness should not be interrupted by the latest trends and toys suddenly on sale. So even if you don’t “Opt Outside” with REI consider opting out of “Black Friday”.
Do you usually partake in Black Friday? If not how are you spending your day?
Yeah I usually don’t like black friday either. I never really do anything for black friday.

Taylor, this is so great! I refuse to go to stores on Black Friday, it’s not fair for the employees to have to leave their families. Plus I get overwhelmed with crowds.
