While I don’t abide by a true “capsule closet” I love the idea of building a wardrobe of versatile pieces that work together through the seasons year after year. My style and preferences have changed a little over the years, especially since becoming a mom, but I usually find myself gravitating to the same timeless styles. So much so that a post I wrote several years ago still rings true for me.

I first shared 5 Closet Staples You Need in 2017 and eight years later these pieces (with a few small changes) still make up the heart of my wardrobe. These are staples that I know will be versatile and work well in my wardrobe year after year given their timeless and classic style.
Blazer or Lady Jacket

Classic Button Down
My love for a classic white button down has not faded over the years. I LOVE reaching for my button down. It’s probably one of my most worn pieces. The two that I love the most are from AYR and Sezane. I know not everyone loves button downs so find a versatile shirt that fits your style. A classic striped tee, a beautiful lace blouse or the perfect fitting t-shirt. All of those pieces can be dressed up or down.

Perfect Fitting Jeans
Jeans are almost always my pant of choice. Even when I’m just at home for the day I’m almost always in jeans and this has been true throughout all my phases of life and motherhood. I just don’t feel my best in sweats or leggings so finding a pair of jeans that are comfortable and look good is a must for me. For several years my go-to for jeans was J Crew and while I still have a few pairs that I love I finally tried some higher end jeans that had been on my wishlist and they are the BEST. I have a few pairs from Mother that I absolutely love and truthfully they are so soft, relaxed and comfortable that I prefer them to leggings. My two favorite styles are The Rambler and The Dazzler.
Comfortable Flats

I live in flats and my most favorite pair gets LOTS of wear. I love that they work well with shorts, jeans and dresses too, but they are also incredibly comfortable. I have my favorite pair in a few different colors so that I have a pair of comfortable flats for almost any outfit (as seen here).
Simple Heels
I love a statement shoe and before having kids I loved wearing a fun heel. I still have a few pairs that I can’t bring myself to get rid of, but when reaching for a heel I always find myself gravitating to my simpler pairs. An understated and solid color heel can go with almost anything making them truly timeless and versatile. I’ve had my same “go-to” pair of black heels since 2018 (when I discovered the comfort and ease of a block heel).

The beauty of timeless style is that you can have and love the same pieces for years without trends playing a roll. Find the pieces that work best for you and build your wardrobe around them. It will make getting dressed each day so much easier! And when you wear pieces that you truly love and work for YOU, you will feel all the better too!
