This is my second year of blogging during the time of the big Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Same as last year, I won’t be covering the sale or sharing my “sale picks” and “must have pieces” like most bloggers are this time of year.
I want to clarify by saying I still love shopping the sale and reading posts by other bloggers about some of the great items they find. But I just can’t bring myself to push the sale. I didn’t start Living Taylored to be a fashion blog, always sharing the latest and greatest trends and outfits. I started it to embrace a simple lifestyle. Of course I still love shopping and share outfits posts and highlight some of my favorite pieces throughout the year. I try to focus on versatile pieces that I know I will wear over and over again for years to come.
The Nordstrom sale is absolutely a great time to find basics, especially for the fall season, but most of the time I feel like we have the mindset of “60% off?? Yes I absolutely need that jacket even though I already own 4200 others…” (Speaking from experience here, I bought a coat last year and almost bought another this year even though I have way too many already).
I don’t disapprove of shopping the N-Sale at all. I completely agree that you can find some amazing deals and it is a great time to buy a few of those winter necessities or re-fresh a few basics. However, I don’t want to be a blogger that pushes clothes and make anyone feel like they need to have these certain items to fit in or be trendy. The blogging world is already a major comparison game and I don’t want to play into that.
Again, this isn’t to say that bloggers who cover the Nordstrom Sale are “wrong” or materialistic- it is part of their job as bloggers and they are catering to their readers. I still enjoying reading post from a few of the bloggers I follow but I do feel like during the Nordstrom Sale the blogging world becomes oversaturated with posts about what everyone is shopping.
I have been feeling this way for a few weeks now and after reading Bryn’s post on blogging and Meg’s post on mindless shopping I felt compelled to share my thoughts on the topic. I will always be a fan of the Nordstrom Sale and Nordstrom in general. Shop the sale or don’t but all I suggest is that you shop mindfully 🙂
Couldn’t agree more! The word oversaturated nailed it.

Thank you, Kristen! I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way ☺️

I like your post very much. I am not a shopping blog person. I don’t read blogs to learn what people are buying. With that being said, I like it when bloggers share some of their favorite things without going overboard. I also understand that a lot of bloggers are trying to make money off of their blogs so for some, it may be necessary. I find it a turn off though. I rarely read an all shopping blog.

I absolutely agree with you, Taylor! I decided to not really push the sale this year. Jake and I just moved into a new home, so I don’t need to be shopping and spending money right now. I did get a few basics and things I need for when I start working.
