Winter Staple: The Classic Black Coat

DSC_1667My closet is mostly filled with basics and staple pieces year round and even more so in the fall and winter. When dressing for cold weather I prefer to be stocked with versatile and basic pieces to layers rather than trendy pieces I will only wear once or twice a season if I’m lucky. One of the staple pieces I get the most use out of in the winter is my classic black wool coat.DSC_1663.jpgI had been wanting one for quite sometime and finally found one I loved last winter. I wanted something flattering and versatile but that would also keep me warm since Nebraska winters can be quite harsh. I first wore it while we were on a trip to NYC last December. We spent a lot of time walking around the city and despite the cold and rainy weather it kept me warm throughout our days exploring.DSC_1668DSC_1671.JPGI love that this coat is versatile enough to be paired with jeans and a sweater, but it also looks great with a dress or skirt also. The coat is roomy enough that you can easily layer underneath but the flattering silhouette keeps the look feminine without looking too bulky/bundled up.DSC_1661.JPGDSC_1669Black Coat: Kensie, via Nordstrom (similar here and here)| Sweater: JCrew via Nordstrom | Jeans: GAP, old (similar here) | Boots: Nine West (similar here)
