Tea at The Plaza

When we decided to go to New York City in December I was excited to see how festive the city becomes with window displays, decorated trees, and holiday menus. I knew I wanted to see The Plaza at Christmas time so we decided to do afternoon tea during our trip.

During the holiday season The Plaza changes there tea menus to feature special holidays tea, treats, and savories. Andrew and I each ordered a different afternoon tea so that we could share and sample each others treats.

After such a busy and cold morning of exploring the city it was nice to sit inside the Palm Court with a warm cup of tea and enjoy the afternoon. When deciding what to pack for the trip tea was the most difficult outfit to plan. The Palm Court has a “smart casual” dress code meaning that clean, neat and casual clothes are acceptable. However, I always prefer to be slightly dressier and look my best. I chose a festive black and red skirt with tights, black sweater, and black heeled boots. I thought this would be a comfortable and festive look for afternoon tea and our dinner later that night.

We took our time enjoying our tea and treats, talking about what we had enjoyed so far and what else we were looking forward to on the rest of the trip. I was so glad that we did end up scheduling afternoon tea at The Plaza because you cannot enter the main portion of the hotel unless you are a guest or have a reservation. So after tea we wandered a bit to admire all of the beauty of the hotel and see its festive holiday decor.
