This year has truly been an amazing one. At the end of each year I love reflecting on all of the changes, challenges and memories the past year has provided. My family has a tradition each NYE of going through our “gratitude jar” to reflect on everything we have to be thankful for. (My mom keeps a jar on her kitchen table with slips of paper next to it. Each time one of us is grateful for something we write it on the slip and put it in the jar).
So in a way this is my 2016 gratitude post.
- Marriage: I began this year as a newlywed on our honeymoon in Napa. It was truly a wonderful way to begin this new year and new adventure with my husband. I will say that this first year of marriage wasn’t without its challenges, but it was one of the best years of my life. We celebrated our first anniversary this December and I am looking forward to many more years with my best friend,
- Travel: I have such a love of traveling and luckily this year I was able to cross a few new places off my list. We started the year in Napa, I took a trip with my mother-in-law to Connecticut in October and celebrated my anniversary in New York city this December. I am anxious to see where 2017 takes us for our next adventures. (Fingers crossed for Maine!)
- Friends: This year has been a tough one for friends. I have been in Omaha for 2 years now and still feel a little lost friends wise. My friends from high school and college that I am still close with don’t live here so I have had to make a few new friends. This was a challenge and a blessing for me. I am not a very social person so putting myself out there and trying to build a relationship has been difficult. But luckily I have met a few people at work who are truly great!
- Family: As always, my family is so important to me. Living in a different town isn’t always easy and I miss them often, but I am so thankful to have such loving and caring parents and siblings. Not only am I blessed by my immediate family but my husbands family as well. Our families are close and it is times when all of us are able to be together that I remember just how truly blessed I am to have such great people in my life.
Of course there are many more things about 2016 that I am grateful for but these are just a few of my most grateful memories of the year. I know next year won’t be without it challenges as well but I know that because I have so much to be grateful for I will make it through.
What are you grateful for in 2016?
Happy New Year! I hope 2017 brings lots of joy and love.
