Gift Guide | Toys Your Kids Will Actually Play With

As a parent, shopping for Christmas can already feel overwhelming, not to mention your house will soon be filled with new toys contributing to never ending chaos. It can feel so frustrating to acquire more toys that your kids will only play with a few times before losing interest.

I’ve put together a list of toys that our family has owned and loved for several years. These are items that even as my kids grow and develop they still love to play with regularly.

Lovevery Kits: My parents subscribed the kids to Lovevery kits when Jack turned one. As a parent it is so comforting knowing that your kids have toys and developmental tools that are designated for their exact age. It takes the guess work out of shopping for the kids.

Pop-up Tent: The kids have a pop up tent and a play teepee that they absolutely love using. I love that this set can easily fold up but also be used as a ball pit too. This truly provides hours of fun for the kids.

Climbing Gym: We’ve had a climbing gym for about 4 years and they kids still regularly play with it and it is always popular when they have friends over too. I especially love having this in winter when its harder to get out and the kids need something a little more active. They climb on it, use it to build forts, and have all kinds of fun.

Water Table: Even as the kids get older the water table continues to be a hit. Its such a great summer activity. We spend our afternoons on the back porch and the kids will play in the water table for hours.

Magnetic Tiles: The kids got their first magnetic tile set two years ago and I wasn’t sure how much they would play with it but they continue to love it and we regularly add to our collection. I love seeing what they create with it.

Balance Beam/Stepping Stones: This is another great toy for winter months. We have a stepping stone set and the kids play “floor is lava” or set up obstacle course. Its a great toy for keeping them active and working on motor skills.

Digital Camera: The kids have these digital cameras that they use several times a week. Its fun to see what they choose to capture. My favorite is when Jack asks to take a picture of all of us and seeing the memories they capture.

Yoto Player: The kids have had their Yoto Players for a year now and this is something they use daily. It is such a great screen free activity for all ages. We also love using Yoto stories while traveling. They make long car rides a lot more fun. I’ve rounded up some of our favorite Yoto stories here.

Play Couches: We currently have a Nugget Couch that the kids love. We use it for movie nights, fort building and obstacle courses. House of Noa recently launched their own play couch offered in beautiful prints and designs along with other fun pieces like ottomans and coffee tables. I love pieces like this that blend in with other home decor while still allowing the kids to have fun.

Lego Sets: Jack and Elle both love building with legos. They have several sets they play with but what they love most is using blocks to make their own creations. I love getting the big tubs of legos (or lego Duplo for younger kids). This gives them a chance to be creative and use their imagination.

I hope this list takes some stress out of shopping for your little ones. These are all items that not only do my kids love, but they are also extremely popular when we have friends over as well. What are some favorites in your house?
