It seems as though the weather may be officially changing which means its almost time to finally break out my favorite fall pieces, many of which I’ve owned for years. I tend to gravitate towards timeless and classic pieces regardless of the season, but there is something about autumn that I feel really lets them shine. Crips collars poking out of cable knit sweaters, plaid and tweed blazers, rich hues; so many of my favorite things.

I’ve put together a list of my yearly favorites and rounded up several additional styles and options for each.
We tend to have rather wet falls here so I love having a weatherproof coat like my favorite Barbour or a classic trench coat. I have owned my Barbour Beadnell for 8 years and have loved it so much that I now have a second color. They are great for layering and hold up very well in rainy weather. I also love a trench coat. You can never go wrong with a classic tan trench and this one is truly the best, in my opinion.
I love throwing on a blazer when the temperature drops. They easily elevate any outfit, even jeans and sneakers. I’ve never met a tweed I didn’t like so when I see a lovely blazer in a plaid, herringbone or houndstooth its hard to resist.
I often reach for a vest in the early days of fall, especially when the temperature is first dropping and mornings are just a tad chilly. But they are great for colder days too as an extra layering piece. I have a variety of vest whether they are fleece, Borg or quilted. Here are some favorites.
Last year I shared a post about my three favorite turtlenecks. Throughout the fall and winter I regularly wear my favorites. They are perfect for layering or bundling up but also look wonderful on their own. I love to have a few neutral colors along with a couple autumnal hues like burgundy and olive.
A classic cable-knit will never go out of style whether its a crewneck or cardigan. They are a great staple for colder months. I almost always have a sweater with me in fall, whether tucked in my bag or draped over my shoulders should I need it.
A button-up is a year round staple in my wardrobe but I especially love them for layering in the colder months. I especially love a piece with ruffle or broderie details. It just adds something special and looks lovely when layered with the ruffles popping out. I have rounded up some favorite along with a few seasonal options here.
While not always weather-friendly I love reaching for a pair of classic flats in a deeper or autumnal hue. These are a favorite and now they come in a dark brown option as well. A classic flat in a dark brown or burgundy is great for this time of year. (Use code SF-TAYLOR-15 for 15% off at Sarah Flint)
I wear my classic whit sneakers year round, they are such a versatile and timeless option. However it is tempting to opt for a slightly more autumnal option or darker color so I’ve linked a few other fun styles here as well.
I gravitate toward my Hunter Boots most in fall but I also love my LL Bean boots. Both are so easy to slip on it wet weather while still looking put together. I have shared a full review of my beans boots here.
Versatile Tote
In summer months I’m perfectly content taking a smaller bag but in colder months I always tend to have more layers with me and need a large bag to hold it all. I have two tote bags that I switch between in fall and winter. The Longchamp Le Pliage and a Cuyana Leather Tote have both been practical pieces and served me well the past 7 years.
