Closet MVPs | Pieces I’ve Loved For 5+ Years

I’ve spent the past few months trying to pair back my closet and I’ve realized I have so many pieces that I have loved for several years. I recently shared a post about timeless style and how so many of my favorite styles have continued to be my favorites for several years. Building my wardrobe around quality, timeless pieces has allowed me to enjoy them for years.

That is one of the biggest benefits of avoiding fast fashion, you will have pieces that withstand the test of time in both style and quality. I wanted to share a round up of my closet MVPs that I’ve had for five years or longer that I continue to wear and love. Not only are these styles that have a classic and timeless style but they are also quality made pieces that will last year after year.

Longchamp Le Pliage

When I found out I was pregnant in 2018 I went on a search for a bag to use as a diaper bag. I had loved the look of the Le Pliage and felt it would be exactly what I needed. It was perfect for a diaper bag and I still use it regularly today even though I am well past the diaper bag stage of motherhood. The outside easily wipes clean and it is very roomy for carrying baby gear, snacks or travel necessities.

Barbour Beadnell

My Barbour Beadnell (pictured above) was one of my first personal splurges as an adult in the “real world”. It had been on my list for a while and I was so excited to finally order it in 2016. I have loved this jacket so much that I actually ended up ordering a second color a few years ago. I wear them both so often all fall through spring. You can send it in to be relaxed (waterproofed) or get the wax to do it yourself. Since this is such an investment piece for me I prefer to send it in so that I know it is being done properly.

Hunter Boots

Having comfortable, weatherproof boots is a must when living in the Midwest. I first purchased a pair of Hunter Boots in 2016 and they are always on heavy rotation during the colder months. I also love them for travel (especially their packable pair) and have taken them with me on several fall and winter trips.

Dudley Stephens

For quite a few years Dudley Stephens had almost a cult like following. They were SO popular and every drop would nearly sell out. I was absolutely one of those people who loved the brand and would have happily owned every single color and style. Their classic Park Slope fleece is their elevated take on traditional fleece wear. I loved that their pieces were comfortable yet chic and made me feel put together. They were perfect for my life as a stay at home mom. When I first fell in love with the brand I wore a DS almost weekly, sometimes multiple times a week. I still have several colors and wear them often. They are such a great elevated athlesiure piece.

LL Bean Boots

Growing up my mom had a pair of duck boots that I always loved. I eventually took them with me to college and wore them all the time in the winter. After graduating I ordered my own pair from LL Bean as the borrowed pair were over 20 years old. They are great winter boots and incredible quality. I’ve now had mine for 8 years and they still look brand new after lots of wear each winter. I have shared a full review here comparing the different styles.

Striped Boatneck T-Shirt

A good striped shirt will always be a classic and this boatneck from JCrew is my favorite. It is a little thicker so it has a more structured fit than a standard t-shirt. I probably reach for this top at least once a week in spring and summer. I love wearing it with skirts, shorts and linen pants. This one has been in my wardrobe for at least 8 years!

Tissue Turtleneck

The tissue turtleneck has been a favorite for almost 8 years. It is great for layering or wearing on its own. I love the fit and how lightweight they are. Each year they often have a handful of colors and a few patterns as well. The black has always been my most warn color.

Cuyana Tote

I first got my Cuyana Tote in 2018 and while they have since slightly changed the style and silhouette I think their commitment to quality has remained the same. I mostly use this bag during the winter months as that is when I find myself wearing black the most so it doesn’t get too much year round use. But for being nearly eight years old it is still in great condition! Cuyana’s slogan is “fewer, better things” which is something that really motivates me to focus on quality over quantity. I would rather have few very well made pieces that will last several years rather than a closet overflowing with pieces that are cheaply made that will last only a season or two.

The sentiment of fewer, better things and quality over quantity is exactly why I wanted to share this post. To highlight the beauty of investing in quality pieces that are also timeless allowing them to be worn year after year.

My friend Shannon shares a similar philosophy when it comes to her style and shopping. She has also put together a post about classic style with pieces that stand the test of time. Give it a read here!

I’ll be sharing another post soon with pieces that I have had and loved for 3+ years. That may not seem like a lot but it is when I really started to shape my wardrobe around my new life and style preferences. I’m at a point in life that I really think through my purchases and how they will enhance my current wardrobe. So the pieces I will share in the next post are also true favorites that I know I will have have for years to come.
