Dyson Air Wrap vs. Shark Flex Styler

Chances are you’ve heard of or seen the Dyson Air Wrap. I had been wanting one ever since they first came out but couldn’t bring myself to spend that much on a blow dryer/hair styler.

Lucky for me, my mom got one so whenever she would visit or I would be at her house I would get to use hers and I LOVED it. I kept telling myself that eventually I would splurge and buy one for myself but I just couldn’t talk myself into it.

Then I saw that Shark released their own version at only half the cost and I thought it would be worth trying so I put it on my Christmas list.

Now that I have had the chance to frequently use both I thought I would share a review and compare the two of you are also debating on which is best for you.

The photos below were taken a day apart right after styling my hair. I used the same hair products both days as well.

Dyson Air Wrap

I’ve used the Dyson several times with the curling wands and smoothing comb. However I will note that the version I have used is the original magenta version. I have heard mixed reviews about the updated models and if they work as well.

I love the Dyson and I think it holds the curl slightly better than the Shark Flex Style. It also has a slightly slimmer base to it making it a little easier to hold.

I use the slimmer curling wands on the Dyson and find that they are a little slimmer than the standard curling wands of the Shark. Which work better for my hair personally. It just seems to hold better and give a smoother curl.

Shark Flex Styler

The first feature that drew me to the Shark Flex Styler is it’s ability to twist and work like a true blow dryer. I find it easier to blow dry this way than with the Dyson Air Wrap & smoothing comb attachment.

The curling wands are very similar to the Dyson’s wands however I don’t feel like it curls quite as smoothly as the Dyson. I do like that it has several different heat and airflow settings on it (as does the Dyson). When curling I like to do it on the lowest level of air to help keep the curls a little smoother. If I do the higher levels of air it gets a little unruly and harder to curl with.

The overall wand of the Shark is thicker than the Dyson which I find a little more cumbersome to hold but it’s not a huge issue.

Otherwise I thinks it’s a great hair tool and you can’t beat that it’s only half the price of the Dyson.

I really don’t think you can go wrong with either. I’m definitely not a hair pro but my hair ends up looking pretty similar when using either styler (see above photos). Neither give me a true curl but the do add some wave and body. Think fresh blowout look.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask below! They are both great pieces that in my opinion make it quick and easy to do your hair and achieve a polished and put together look.
