“Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”
-John Muir
Andrew and I are spending the day in Acadia National Park today so it seemed like a great time to talk about spending time in nature. I’m sure by looking at me I don’t really seem like an “outdoorsy” kind of girl. And that would probably be accurate. I don’t like getting dirty, and bugs and spiders terrify me, yet I always have this desire to spend time in nature.
While I may not be super keen on camping or great at “roughing it” and spending days on end outdoors, nature and wildlife are very important to me and have always had a place in my heart.
Anytime I have had the opportunity to explore a new outdoor environment I become emotionally overwhelmed by the beauty and greatness of it but also saddened by the way we are negatively affecting the beautiful areas of land and the creatures that inhabit them. I actually cried when I visited Muir Woods because I was just so amazed and humbled to see a part of nature that has lived for hundreds of years.
Not only do I think it is important for us to spend time outdoors and connect with nature, but to learn about different environments and wildlife and do our part to take care of the planet to help ensure that wildlife can continue to survive and hopefully someday thrive.
No matter where you live take some time to explore nature and get outside. It is such a great way to relax, unwind and just enjoy the natural beauty that is all around us.
I’ll be sharing more from our time in Maine and Acadia soon! 🙂

I completely agree!! I’m not a tomboy or anything but I absolutely love spending time outside in new environments.

I relate to this post SO much! I have never been an outdoorsy person and nature kind of grosses me out more often than not. I do however, always find time in the day to get outside and run or bike and time spent at the beach or on a trail are some of my most relaxing days. It is crazy how nature can do that! 🙂 Great post!
